FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IT’S MY FIRST TIME… HOW DOES IT WORK?
Welcome to Bayside Rock Climbing! If it’s your first time, have no fear, the friendly staff will guide you through everything and make sure you aren’t jumping in with no assistance! Depending which area you choose to do, the staff will give you a short instrcution of how all the safety works and a general overview of how everything works and how to challenge yourself should you choose to do that! If you’re not sure about how each area works, feel free to have a read below and book in for the area that interests you most!
DO WE NEED TO BOOK?
Top Rope: As long as there are less than 10 participants you do NOT need to book
for top rope climbing.
Climb Time: Climb Time fills up very fast so bookings are essential for any number
of climbers. Check availability and Book Online
WHAT IS 'CLIMB TIME'?
‘Climb Time’ is an exciting new way to experience indoor rock climbing! Operated with ‘Automatic’ belays means no one is required to do the rope work which means parents can either relax as the kids climb or even join in them selves! ‘Climb Time’ also includes our caving challenge and ‘Spider Mountain’ so there is heaps to keep everyone busy!
‘Climb Time’ sessions run every hour on the hour during trading hours on weekends, week nights and school holidays! Check availability and Book Online
WHAT IS THE YOUNGEST AGE A CHILD CAN CLIMB?
We recommend that 3 is the youngest age for climbers. In some cases a child as young as 2 may be able to fit our specially designed kids full body safety harness. So as long as they fit the safety harness, are adventurous and outgoing then they can give it a go!
WHAT IS ‘TOP ROPE CLIMBING’?
‘Top Rope Climbing’ is our traditional indoor rock climbing activity. This involves typicaly two people working together, with one person holding and keeping the rope tight, known as belaying (minimum age for belaying is 12 years old), while the other person ascends the 11m walls!
The Top Rope Climbing area is setup with paths of varying difficulty, ranging from very easy (grade 1) to extremely chllanging (grade 10).
*Top Rope requires a harness, either your own, or hire*
DO I NEED TO PAY IF I AM JUST BELYAING?
There is no cost if you are just belaying, however if you do not own your own harness you will need to hire one for $6.
WHAT IS ‘BOULDERING’?
The main difference is that bouldering can be done independently! There is no need for a harness as the floor has thick soft matting for you to land on! Just like The Top Rope Climbing there are specific paths ranging from easy (grade 1) to very difficult (grade 10).
If you’re looking for a serious challenge and consider yourself a puzzle solver then ‘Bouldering’ is definitely for you. ‘Bouldering’ tends to be a little bit more powerful and technical than Top Rope Climbing because the walls are much shorter, they are about 4m tall, it means that the moves to get from the bottom of a path to the top are tricky and require some problem solving.
Minimum age for bouldering is 15 years old.
*Bouldering requires climbing shoes, either your own, or hire*
CAN I USE ALL THE AREAS?
Top Rope climbing and Bouldering are included in the same price of $20 for an adult or $18 for a student meaning you are free to use both areas! However the necessary equipment is required to use both areas, climbing shoes for Bouldering and a harness for Top Rope Climbing.
Climb Time is a separate area. You can add Top Rope climbing and Bouldering to your climb time session for additional cost bringing the price to $30 for all 3 areas. (Not inclding hire shoes.)
IS THERE A TIME LIMIT TO CLIMBING?
Yes. Climb Time sessions run in 1 hour blocks but additional sessions can be paid for at a discounted rate.
All other climbing is limited to a 2 hour session. (If you do NOT have your own climbing gear)
CAN I FILL OUT PAPERWORK BEFORE I ARRIVE?
If booking for 10 participants or more then paperwork will be completed at the gym.
For all other first time visits please Fill in, Print, Read and Sign a waiver for EACH participant.
